MTC Hosts Rock A Thon Fundraiser

Morgantown Theatre Company is hosting a Rock-A-Thon this Saturday, April 17th, from 10:00 am through 8:00 pm. This Rock-A-Thon is a special fundraiser in which MTC actors of all ages will rock in rocking chairs for 10 hours to raise money for their theatre company. The staff at MTC encourages community members to stop by and say hello to the actors; it's sure to be a rockin' good time!

As a non-profit theatre, MTC relies on fundraising to help offset expenses. The Rock-A-Thon is one of several new fundraisers for MTC this semester. MTC's Board President Johanna Stewart says "Since its inception, Morgantown Theatre Company has always strived to be as self-supporting and independent as possible. During the past several months, MTC's operating funds have been depleted alarmingly. We have lost substantial income from ticket sales and other potential fundraising activities due to the economic climate, inclement weather, and inability to perform at our wonderful home base, the Historic Metropolitan Theatre, which has been undergoing extensive, much-needed renovations since last August. Further adding to our financial hardship, we have just learned that Governor Manchin has cut from his budget the much needed $20,000 grant that we have received from the West Virginia Department of Culture and History for the past several years."

How can you support Morgantown Theatre Company? Sponsor a MTC rocker in the Rock-A-Thon by contacting MTC at 304-291-6826 or info@morgantowntheatrecompany.org. Or stop by the event this Saturday, April 17 between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm to meet the kids and learn more about MTC programs.

Please also consider joining the MTC family for Vera Bradley Bingo Sunday, May 2nd at the St. John's Parish Center!

Summer of Sweeney

by Ida Stewart

The summer of 2009 will forever be remembered in MTC history as the “Summer of Sweeney.” After three nights of standing ovations from sell-out crowds, the adult cast of MTC alumni and new community friends is exhilarated after tackling Stephen Sondheim’s most challenging musical with little more than six weeks of rehearsal.
